“The Ministry of Environment has loosened requirements for contamination testing on properties surrounding the main Terminal Avenue corridor that runs through the centre of Nanaimo.

The Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association – the group that asked the ministry to make the change – says the move could save 146 property owners and developers in the area tens of thousands of dollars in environmental testing costs.

The area runs from Comox Road to the north and south to Esplanade Avenue, encompassing much of downtown Nanaimo in between.
